Greek civil services workers went on strike Wednesday to protest the austerity of a further bailout package for the debt-stricken country.

Pharmacies closed and train stations shut down as part of the 24-hour walk-out staged by the country's main public sector union ADEDY to reject the pension reforms, tax hikes, and other measures that will accompany the new debt deal.

Striking public service workers and protesters marching in Athens urged Greek members of parliament not to back the proposed bailout deal.

The strike comes as Greek Parliament is set to hold a critical vote Wednesday evening on whether to support the bailout terms Prime Minister Alexis Tsipras agreed to with creditors at the eurozone meeting on Monday. Facing intense international pressure and a deadline crunch to submit proposals to the eurozone, Tsipras put forward a reform package with austerity measures that Greeks widely rejected with a majority “no” vote in the country's bailout referendum last weekend just before the special eurozone summit.
