Deutsche Lufthansa AG’s cabin crew union, UFO, said Monday it will stage a one-week strike at the German flagship carrier, should Lufthansa fail to come forward with an improved offer by Thursday afternoon.

As part of a protracted labor dispute, the UFO union said it sent Lufthansa a list of demands related to the company’s current retirement plans. If the airline fails to address the requests by the deadline, the union will call for a strike starting Nov. 6 through to Nov. 13.

“We have negotiated with Lufthansa for two years,” said UFO head Nicoley Baublies, adding that an end to the conflict still isn’t in sight.

Negotiations between UFO and Lufthansa failed over the weekend, after UFO rejected the airline’s latest offer.

Lufthansa is also in dispute with other labor unions as it seeks to cut costs in its fight against fierce competition from budget carriers.

Lufthansa and Vereinigung Cockpit, the pilots union, have been at loggerheads for some time over wage issues and the airline’s low-cost strategy. A walkout in September marked the 13th strike in 18 months.
