City Councilmen Brad Lander and Carlos Menchaca, both Brooklyn Democrats, were arrested blocking the street outside Vegas Auto Spa in Greenwood Heights. Stuart Appelbaum, president of the Retail Wholesale and Department Store Union, and Marc Perrone, president of the United Food and Commercial Workers, were also detained.

"When these businesses are exploiting their workers in our neighborhood, I get very emotional about it," Lander told the Daily News after he was released from lockup. "For me, it's one of the most serious things I could do to stand up for workers whose rights and dignity are being violated”.
