Queried about the strike announcement made by some unions on Monday, Cabinet Chief Aníbal Fernández appealed for “rationality,” saying “extreme measures complicate the rest of society.”

In his daily talk with reporters at the entrance of the government house, the head of ministers today hoped negotiations to “continue in the path of rationality” in order to settle a salary dispute that has led the CATT transport union to confirm a walkout for June 9. Also yesterday, the UOM construction union led by pro-government Antonio Caló called for a 36-hour strike for this week.

“(I hope) we can talk without any inconvenient; people have always been reasonable. I hope to continue in the same path of rationality to try to resolve these things the best way. Buzz that collective bargaining talks can produce don’t scare me; taking extreme measures sometimes complicates the rest of society and it has to be analyzed with lot of prudence,” Fernández told media this morning.
