Imported goods arriving at Venezuelan docks remain in there longer than legally allowed, while importers fail to pay the relevant fines and authorities do nothing to tackle the issue. This was reported by the Venezuelan Comptroller's Office in its 2014 annual management report.

During a new inspection in major Puerto Cabello dock (northern Carabobo state), the agency checked 67 dossiers reporting goods that had been abandoned from one to six years ago. Even though the government was notified of this, nothing was done.

The report shows that following a physical inspection, the Comptroller's Office found that this situation resulted in delays in the disposal of goods by the Executive Office, losses for damaged goods and expired products, which also led to higher storage and safeguarding costs, in addition to reduced warehouse spaces.
