The unemployment rate for Hispanics in Florida has fallen to nearly pre-recession levels, according to a study released Wednesday.

But the unemployment rate for African Americans remains high, said the left-leaning nonprofit Economic Policy Institute in a national report on how the job picture has changed for workers of different races since the economic went belly-up.

In the third quarter of 2015, about 6 percent of Hispanic workers in Florida were unemployed, compared to 5.6 percent at the end of 2007, EPI found.

While the picture for Hispanic workers looks nearly as good as it did eight years ago, black unemployment stands at 9 percent today, compared to 7.1 percent before the recession.

White workers have suffered the least: unemployment among white workers in Florida was 4.2 percent for the third quarter of 2015, up from 3.8 percent in 2007.

The overall unemployment rate for Florida is 5.4 percent, according to the study.

Said EPI economist Valerie Wilson: “We need policies that will continue to advance the recovery and push rates below pre-recession unemployment levels for all groups.”
