The last of the 16 gates in the new locks of the Panama Canal was installed successfully today on the Pacific side.

The gate is located at the southern end of the new locks. Its dimensions are 57.6 meters wide, 10 meters long and 33 meters high.

The gates were manufactured in Italy and arrived in the country in four deliveries that began on Aug. 20, 2013.

Now that the gates have been installed, contractor GUPC will begin flooding the chambers to see if they are ready for testing. The project is almost 90 percent complete.
