The massive Miami Worldcenter project will be hiring construction workers at a job fair in Overtown on Tuesday.
Plumbers, carpenters, concrete finishers, painters, laborers and other trade workers are needed, according to a news release from developers. The event will be held from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Historic St. Agnes Episcopal Church located at 1750 NW Third Ave.
Priority will be given to hiring residents of the Southeast Overtown/Park West and Omni Community Redevelopment areas, the Overtown community and other in-need areas of Miami and Miami-Dade County.
Some community activists have criticized subsidies given by city officials to the mixed-use project in Park West, saying the deal will not provide enough jobs and investments for locals in Overtown.
But developers say the Worldcenter project will create 18,000 direct jobs for Miami and help revitalize a depressed area.
