New York Governor Andrew Cuomo, announced the final approval of a law that will increase the hourly minimum wage to US$15 for fast food workers in New York State.

The increase will be introduced gradually, rising to $15 by 2018 in New York City and by 2021 throughout the rest of the state.

Governor Cuomo said at a press conference Thursday that $15 an hour should be the minimum wage for all workers in the state.

"Every worker in the state of New York deserves $15 an hour, and we're not going to stop until we get it done," Cuomo said at a press conference Thursday.

Cuomo vowed to introduce a bill to the state legislature, which if approved, would make New York the first U.S. state to implement a minimum wage as high as $15 an hour.
