If they do not receive a response, they threatened to protest at the headquarters of the Summit of the Americas being held in Panama City later this week.

Workers began a permanent vigil at noon. They met with officials from the Ministry of Trade and Industry and Petaquilla Gold officials to discuss the back payments, which date to October 2014.

Workers indicated that they have already been patient enough and are demanding a firm date for the payments to be made.

The company has claimed it has received outside financing to resume operations and cancel the debts owed to the employees.
