Tax revenues, the main source of government income, totaled $602 million, 7 percent below the amount budgeted. Non-tax revenues, on the other hand, contributed $174 million, 9 percent more than budgeted but 14.5 percent less than last year.
Revenue Director Publius Cortés acknowledged that the results are not as expected. He blamed the past government for weakening the tax administration. To amend the situation, he said that the agency will hire new personnel and that a unit will be created to follow up on high-profile cases.
