Two 24-hour strikes planned for this week have been called off after talks between unions and London Underground managers.
Unite the Union has suspended two 24-hour strikes to London’s subway system planned for this week, after successful negotiations with London Underground managers to discuss demands over pay and working conditions.
"There are still some remaining sticking points, but we feel sufficient progress has been made to suspend industrial action as an act of goodwill,” Unite the Union regional officer Hugh Roberts stated.
The U.K. unions are unhappy over pay and the introduction of the night tube service, which is scheduled to begin Sept. 12.
Subway workers have been offered a 2 percent pay increase this year and at least 1 percent in 2016 to compensate for the proposed 24-hour train service.
However, union representatives argue that proposals for the service do not take into account the impact on personal lives.
"We have still not reached a final agreement and as a result we are putting on additional strike action next month," General secretary of the Rail, Maritime and Transport trade union, Mick Cash stated.
