Protestors demonstrated across Brazil on Wednesday against a bill that would change labor laws and give companies the right to hire third parties for any role.

Most demonstrations were called by unions, including the country's biggest workers' union central, the CUT, which had promised protests in 24 of Brazil's 26 states. At 1 p.m. in São Paulo (GMT1700), local media reported events in at least 18 states.

The CUT had vowed a general strike since the bill was first set to be voted on, last Tuesday.

In São Paulo, Brazil's largest city, protesters partially blocked Avenida Paulista boulevard as they demonstrated outside the officers of the São Paulo State Federation of Industries.
